Top 1 of family summer mountain holidays: an invigorating rafting descent
Head to the valley and the Isère for a refreshing outing. Rafting is an activity easily accessible to children and very fun for teens, who will not miss the chance to splash about and challenge themselves in the rapids.
The Isère in summer has a good steady flow and the route is suited to families with children. After a calm start to get familiar with the navigation rules and manoeuvres, the rafting builds gently in intensity. The instructor will give you the basics for handling the paddles, as well as a code to lift them and crouch down in the boat if you head straight for a rock! You will even learn to fish each other out of the water with very practical, fun exercises by firmly grabbing your partner’s life jacket.
Sometimes, the instructor stops the boat to give you a surprise… He has you climb the bank and offers (without obligation, of course) to jump into a water hole below… 5 metres down! Sensations guaranteed! You then have to be hoisted back into the raft, which can be a small ordeal in itself if it is not helpfully made easier by the guide who lifts you up.
You will likely have the chance to take rapids passages, including the very prestigious Aime rapids, for a very fun, fresh moment in the heart of unspoiled nature.
The descent continues through the magnificent Centron gorges, whose narrowest, steepest passage is striking.

Top 2 of family summer mountain holidays: a trapper-style outing
An unusual trapper-style outing may remind some of scouting expeditions. You set off on a forest walk, and around the bend at an idyllic clearing, with a small stream and a wooden cabin in the middle, you are transported into another world.
Your mountain guide introduces you to fire preparation in the heart of the forest. Search for lichens and dry kindling, position the wood meticulously to build the fire, light it with a fire-starter and have a competition for the best blaze.
As a reward, the toasted marshmallows make these family summer mountain holidays unforgettable.

Top 3 of family summer mountain holidays: defying vertigo on the via ferrata
Have you ever tried via ferrata in the mountains? Secured by a harness and carabiners, you move along rock walls on ladders and suspension bridges.
The mountain guide accompanies you to help you forget the void and focus on the methodical progression. Via ferratas usually have several sections of increasing difficulty, from easy and accessible to children to more difficult, with escape routes at the end of each section with the option to head back down to the valley.
What pride for your teens (and you) to reach the summit and look back at the path covered!

Top 4 of family summer mountain holidays: an unforgettable night in a mountain refuge
Timeless family summer mountain holidays – have you ever tried? A night in a refuge generally does not leave anyone indifferent.
Accompanied by your mountain guide, at the gates of the Vanoise National Park, you reach the refuge in the late afternoon. The grand environment gives the impression of being alone in the world.
The superb hike, for example starting from the Rosuel cirque in Peisey-Vallandry, takes you through pastures, scree fields and forest before reaching the plateau by the Lac de la Plagne. With your guide, you discover the fauna, flora and history, and the climb passes quickly.
Discovering the refuge is an enchanting sight. Before a well-deserved Savoyard dinner, you enjoy the last instants of the setting sun for an impromptu group stretching session. Doing yourselves good as a family in a sublime spot – there is nothing like it to create unforgettable memories!
The night at the refuge is not, objectively, the height of luxury, especially after leaving the comfort of your cosy chalet. Even so, it is an unforgettable experience and the view of the mountain on waking is fantastic. Sharing this experience as a family is a source of intense wonder for everyone, including for your teens!

Top 5 of family summer mountain holidays: an adrenaline-filled mountain bike descent
Have you ever ridden the bike park trails on a mountain bike or fat bike? La Plagne’s bike park, in particular, is renowned for the diversity of its trails, with some accessible to beginners and others more technical for the more experienced.
You can also take small natural trails between forest and alpine pastures to reach the valley.
The mountain-biking descent gives you a sensation-filled experience, which we recommend doing each at your own pace with a qualified instructor to ride safely.
