The little-known paradises of the Tarentaise
Far from the bustle of mass tourism, there are places in the Tarentaise whose beauty commands respect and humility. At the foot of glaciers, deep in the valley, or within typical villages, we take you to discover the hidden gems of our valley. Places where Mother Nature enjoys a rich and generous flora and fauna, and where mankind has settled gently, so as not to disturb.
The Alpine valley of the Tarentaise sits in Savoie, in the French Alps (Northern Alps). The Isère river rises here. The Tarentaise is bordered to the north by the Beaufortain and Mont-Blanc massifs, and to the south by the Vanoise and Lauzière.
The Tarentaise in winter is famous for winter sports thanks to the prestigious resorts of Les Trois Vallées (Méribel, Courchevel, Les Ménuires, Saint Martin de Belleville and Val Thorens) and Paradiski (Les Arcs and La Plagne), as well as the Espace Killy (Tignes and Val d’Isère). The Tarentaise in summer offers restorative summer holidays and breathtaking landscapes.
Are you ready to escape from your chalet base in the Tarentaise? Your eyes won’t believe what they see!
The site of Champagny le Haut, in the village of Champagny en Vanoise
The very access road to the site speaks volumes about what awaits you in Champagny le Haut, in the village of La Plagne in the Tarentaise. It’s a winding, narrow road to the “end of the world”, squeezed between the cliff on one side and the ravine on the other. Suffice to say it naturally limits visitor numbers. But upon reaching this lush green valley at 1,500 m altitude, the magic strikes instantly: the glaciers of the Grande Casse and the Grande Motte reign supreme here.

Lake Rosière in Courchevel
At 1,530 m altitude, this small Tarentaise lake of glistening waters, fringed by towering spruces, is reminiscent of the great wild expanses of Canada. It feels wonderful to come and seek the cool air in summer and let your mind wander on its footbridge, along the stream, or during a picnic on its shores.
Easily reached from your chalet in Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village (Courchevel 1550) or Courchevel 1850, it’s a perfect family escape, for the little ones and their grandparents alike!

The village of Saint Martin de Belleville, gateway to the Belleville valley at 1,450 metres
On the road leading to the ski resorts of Les 3 Vallées (just before Les Ménuires and Val Thorens), Saint Martin de Belleville is a delightful little town steeped in history.
Before the tourism boom some fifty years ago, “Saint Martin” — as it’s known to friends — lived to the rhythm of pastoral life and has carefully preserved its picturesque charm of yesteryear, as shown by its architecture of narrow streets and lauze-stone houses. A charming destination in the Tarentaise to discover with the family.

The valley of Rosuel, in Peisey Nancroix
A plateau perched at some 1,550 metres, the Rosuel valley is one of the gateways to the Vanoise National Park. On the heights of Peisey Nancroix, visitors can discover this true postcard scene, made up of the Ponthurin torrent, waterfalls, the Mont Pourri and Bellecôte glaciers — and perhaps even the flight of the impressive bearded vulture, that emblematic raptor with a 3-metre wingspan.

The hamlet of Le Monal in Sainte Foy en Tarentaise
Following the forest trail from the resort of Sainte Foy in the Tarentaise, you don’t necessarily expect to discover this miniature hamlet of small stone-and-wood chalets, with little streams winding between them. These alpine huts, perched at 1,870 metres, are nothing other than “montagnettes” dating from the 19th century, used at the time both for the herds and for the people. Visiting this site of undeniable charm is a true journey through time, even out of time…
