If Jack London’s tales and adventures set against great wild expanses have always made you dream, and unusual stays appeal to you, then this experience is for you!
How would you fancy trying a night in an igloo — a real one — without having to migrate to the North Pole or set comfort aside?
You don’t believe it possible? Yet that’s exactly what we offer in our resorts! For you, we tried the concept. Here’s the story of an utterly Inuit experience!
Discovering the igloo world
After getting fully prepared, dressed warmly and methodically, head torch on, we are ready for the truly out-of-the-ordinary evening ahead. Late afternoon, early evening — it’s now time to set off.
The igloo village, in the middle of the ski area, is reached after a twenty-minute walk, only adding to the excitement and curiosity that drive us.
In the distance, we gradually catch glimpses of the lights from the wood fire that awaits us in the middle of the village, warming the place as if welcoming the evening’s visitors.
The igloo-makers give us a warm welcome and invite us to follow them into the kitchen igloo. The ambient temperature catches our attention — here it is stable, around zero, and frankly easy to handle with our gear. We have to admit that the hearty, indulgent meal we enjoy — a smooth, much-loved Savoyard fondue — must have something to do with it. Our hosts gladly answer our questions on how these ephemeral homes are built, on their craft and their experience. They also kindly explain the night ahead, with questions piling up about what to do — and what not to do. They recommend, for instance, placing our anoraks and ski trousers under our sleeping bags so they don’t freeze by morning.

An un-igloo-ttable night in an igloo
It isn’t long before we discover our bedroom igloos and slip into our beds, taking care to apply the tips given by our hosts a few minutes earlier. As a result, for the first time, we sleep with hats on as they retain our body heat, plus the technical thermal layers under our suits. Comfortably tucked into our polar-expedition sleeping bags, still observing the spartan but effective décor of our temporary shelter, we drift off — against all expectations — very quickly and sleep like logs.
The next morning, we wake early, dressing directly inside our sleeping bags before stepping outside. Dazzled by the first rays of sun appearing, the spectacle of nature gently waking is breathtaking, made all the more magical by the silence that surrounds us and the surrounding peaks — silence that seems to embrace us, whispering in our ear the promise of a beautiful day ahead.
