What is First Track?

First Track, literally meaning the “first line”, is an activity offered by some ski resorts that lets skiers enjoy the pistes before the official opening of the ski area. Generally accompanied by patrollers or guides, participants gain priority access to the lifts and set off down freshly prepared pistes, free of any tracks.

It is an experience that is at once exclusive and immersive, giving the mountain a whole different face. The silence of the morning, the crystal-clear air, the sun rising over the peaks… A true luxury for sliding-sports enthusiasts.

First Track and the chalet experience: the perfect combination

What could be better than coming back from a First Track and finding the warmth of an alpine chalet? This early-morning experience pairs perfectly with a cosy stay in a typical mountain accommodation. Here is why:

1. A gentle wake-up

In a chalet, no stress, no queues. You are often close to the slopes, sometimes even ski-in. All you have to do is get up, slip on your gear and head straight to First Track.

2. A comfortable return after the effort

After your morning session, you come back to a fireside, a hot chocolate or even a Nordic bath on the terrace. The contrast between the chilled effort and the cosy comfort is simply perfect.

3. A bespoke stay

The luxury chalets offered by Pointe de Sel feature personalised services: private chef, massages, transfers… You can turn your ski stay into a true wellbeing retreat.

3 more ideas to elevate your chalet stay in the Alps

1. Host a fondue evening by the fire

Nothing beats a good Savoyard fondue (or raclette) after a day’s skiing. Whether your chalet has a private chef or you prefer to prepare dinner yourselves, make this meal a friendly local ritual.

2. Enjoy wellbeing treatments at altitude

Many chalets offer spa, hammam, jacuzzi or sauna, and even private pools. These wellness facilities are perfect for unwinding tired muscles after a First Track session.

3. Hire a guide for a private outing

A high-mountain guide or ski instructor can take you off the beaten track: freeride or off-piste skiing, snowshoeing. A 100% alpine adventure, setting off straight from your chalet.
