Today, we are meeting Yann Bobbi, founder of Montagne Expérience, who works with Pointe de Sel on a range of mountain activities in the Rosuel valley: biathlon, via ferrata, horse-riding rides, mountain accompaniment and more.
Yann Bobbi, can you tell us where you come from and what you do?
I was born in Bourg Saint Maurice and have always lived in this valley, which I know like the tips of my skis.
My parents were instructors, and having grown up on skis, it felt natural to teach in turn. In summer, no chance of slacking off — I am a sports activity leader!
What is your connection with the mountains?
I am in love with my native Peisey-Vallandry valley and a fan of the Haute Tarentaise in summer and winter alike. I am passionate about nature in general, but I love the mountain on a visceral level — it is my home, where I have lived with my family to the rhythm of the seasons since my earliest childhood.
Do you have favourite mountain spots you would like to share?
In summer, I have a soft spot for the village of Les Lanches. In winter, I love roaming the off-piste in the Bellecôte massif — always safely, of course! As for my favourite ski run, it has to be the Rhodos piste, between Arc 1800 and Peisey-Vallandry. It is perfect for picking up a little speed, all in the middle of the fir trees!
What is your favourite summer activity?
Hiking is my favourite activity. Walking in the mountains is fascinating. There are always new places to discover and the landscape changes throughout the year. I never tire of it…
Speaking of hiking, can you recommend one?
Without hesitation, my favourite: the Lac de la Plagne. You climb up towards the source of the Ponthurin at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park. It is a hike with hugely varied landscapes, fauna and flora that takes my breath away every time.
And your retreat — your mountain cocoon?
It is a refuge — to be precise, the Mont Pourri refuge. My mother was a guardian there during the summers of my childhood, and I lived up there with her. So I have a very strong emotional connection to it. In the heart of the Vanoise National Park, at 2,374 metres, the refuge is surrounded by impressive flora and fauna, with sublime panoramas of the surrounding glaciers and alpine pastures.
Can you tell us about Montagne Expérience, the multi-activity mountain venture you founded?
There are more and more visitors to the mountains in summer, and it is clear that pure air, cool temperatures and quiet are increasingly sought-after by travellers.
I felt the need to create a structure to welcome our visitors as best as possible and turn their stay into an unforgettable holiday.
Montagne Expérience brings together all the summer activities for discovering the mountain, and we will continue to grow our offer with a stronger focus on children.
